Closed Independence Day. Every one be careful and have a lot of fun!!!

227 years ago...on July 4th, 1776

This great nation, the United States of America,

In a struggle for what was right and free,

Was proudly born...

May we celebrate that precious freedom

For which our forbears fought so bravely...

The freedom that is inherent

In the Stars and Stripes, our revered flag...

Celebrate Freedom

This Fourth of July!

What a wonderful treat we all get on Wednesday's when Ms. Betty comes from

Water Safety

Today was exciting and educational when Ashley Rodman from the Corps of Engineers came to school to demonstrate to the kids water safety and life preservers. They were all very interested and had lots of fun watching Ms. Ashley. All the kids earned their JR Safety Ranger hat, some information to take home and share with their parents, and a Frisbee that all 16 went to the playground and played with. Here are some pictures from our safety lesson.

First Ashley showed all the kids how this life jacket did not fit Nate because it was to big, and with a life jacket being to big how it could slip over his head and put his head under water.

\

This one was just right so it was safe to wear in the water. Ashley showed us what kind of life jackets there were. She said 5 different kinds,  one for the ocean waters, it had more floatation devices in it. This one that Nate is demonstrating is for lake or pool use.

This one that Maleah is demonstrating in also used for lake or pool swimming.

This one that Maleah has on is good for pool and lake also.

This flat floaty with straps is one you would throw out to someone that needed help. It is one that when someone needed to lay on top of to stay above water.

Ashley wanted to teach the kids that this board and duck floaty are just toys, these are not safety jackets that could save your life. She talked about how they can keep you above water but how you could also fall off of them or out of them. Good advice that Ms. Ashely is providing for us today.

After the lesson on water safety the kids got to go up and check out all the stuff that Ashley brought for our learning day. She answered questions the kids had and left each of us with a goody bag to take home. I hope that you will go over the materiel sent home and so your children will have the opportunity to learn more and know that mom and dad knows how to help them remember the water safety rules.
