This week our theme is Mother Goose. But with this being Monday and we are starting a brand new month it was spent redecorating for the December festivities. So out with the yellow and brown leaves with turkey decorations and in with Big Santa and Christmas colors Red Green and Gold. So we dressed up the dramatic play area with candles, hanging stockings and pictures. Our color painting and color books section. Getting ready for this months activities will be the most fun of all. Children of Mexico

Children in Mexico and their way of life, a lot of children in Mexico that go to school have to wear uniforms, we talked about the way some dress for entertainment and dancing. We made homemade tortillas with Kathy's help! . The kids each got to roll their own and let Kathy put it on the griddle. Afterward we rolled ours up with a little salt. Usually in Mexico they use tortillas for every meal. Putting such foods as refried beans, rice, cheese, veggies, and all sorts of food rolled up inside and that’s how they eat them. Yum! We all got to try on the Sombrero that came from Mexico. We had new words in Spanish introduced to us today: SIESTA (nap time), NINO (boy), NINA (girl), SI (yes), ADIOS (good-bye). Which Tanner happened to know very well. So cute!!!.

Sharing is Caring

what a sweet bunch of kiddos.

Children of the World

Today we our discussion was on Eskimo children and their way of life. We were introduced to the words IGLOO (house), MUKLUKS (boots).
During art time we made mukluks with brown paper bags, and igloos out of paper bowls.
We got a couple of pictures of our art event. The igloos were not dry but will be coming home tomorrow. Eskimos have a different way of kissing. they rub noses.
The picture of the fried bananas were from our study in Africa, one of their favorite foods. So we cooked some up and had to give it a try...I thought it was really good. Everyone at least took a bite.

Tomorrow our discussion will be Mexico. Yippee tacos and Sombrero's.

Children of the World, Monday Africa

This week here at ABC Preschool we are going to be learning about children in other countries. What some of their living conditions are, and how they dress. When talking about how big the world is and how the ocean divides up some countries I was extremely surprised when a lot of the children already knew this. We talked about and drew a picture of the earth with the sun on one side and the moon on the other. Showing the children that when we have daylight how it is nighttime for some other children in the world.

So today we started with Africa, We learned how some of them have to walk along way with baskets on their heads to carry their food and water. So we all got to try and balance a bucket. It was challenging and we found it to be hard to do but fun to try. Then we made some hats like what some wear in Africa and we learned 3 new words spoken in African, MAMA is mother, BABA if father and the word for hello in Africa is JAMBO. So you might ask your child if he/she remembers their new words. Our food experience for today will be fried bananas!
Tuesday (Eskimo)
Wed (Mexico)
Thurs (Asia)
Friday (American Cowboys and Pioneers)
If you have any information you would like to share with us for our study of these countries we would apprieciate it very much. Or any art ideas as well.

We all have enjoyed the wonderful weather outside these last couple of weeks. The grass is getting so dry with out the rain, so it is causing a dusty mess out there, But its still all fun.

Amber is doing the story telling today, she is such a big help during the week.

My grand baby Killian stopped in for a few minutes to see what every ones up to. Killian and Keeton playing cars.

Nice game of basketball.

Keeten having his time in the book center. He thoroughly loves books!!!!! We talked about feelings yesterday and was trying to put some facial feelings on paper plates, happy, sad, scary, here are some of what we came up with.

Theme of the week is Self-Concepts

Yesterday we did a song during sharing time called Hands On Shoulders, we did some flannel stories, one is one of my favorites from when I was a small child, called Little Red Hen. No one wanted to help the red hen plant her corn, water the corn, pick the corn or take it to the mill. Not the cat the pig or the duck. But they were all eager to eat the bread once she got it baked. Good story, with a lot to learn from it. Today was the story the Gingerbread man. We played out the actions with masks favoring the characters. It was a lot of fun. During the day we discussed how in the olden days people had to wash their clothing with washboards and hand made soap. We had a fun wonderful day.

Sharing time: The world is a rainbow. Art we painted with the colors we worked on this week and included the color yellow. So we also talked about the colors in a rainbow. So our painting today was colors of the rainbow, using sponges to paint with.

In this experience they was experiencing color blending and had a fun time making more colors. Here are a few art pieces.

This week our theme of study was colors. Today was the color blue. During sharing time this morning we listened to the poem called Little Boy Blue. Then right afterward Brayden wanted to share with us the song version. He shared with us that his dad would sing this to him when he was 4 and when he was a baby. “Cute”. We also played the game I Spy With My Little Eye.

During our Art time Ms. Amber had the children paint by using a straw and of course they used blue paint. Very cute activity but the video would not download because it was too small. (Sorry)

During story time Ms. Kathy shared with the kids some nursery rhymes with a CD.

Today during circle time I will be reading some stories and we will play musical chairs again using our colors and shapes on our chairs.

I hope you have had a wonderful day; we all have here at school today.

Today our color is Blue
